Insomnia Treatment in Los Angeles

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is our main treatment for chronic insomnia. It uses weekly visits, sleep tracking and schedule changes instead of medication. Los Angeles patients usually meet with a California-licensed clinician by video. Ask if an in-person option is important to you.

What insomnia looks like in Los Angeles

Chronic insomnia means trouble falling asleep, staying asleep or returning to sleep at least three nights a week for three months or longer. Changing call times, night shifts and long commutes can make the problem harder to manage. CBT-I can be adjusted to the schedule you actually have.

Sleep apnea and insomnia often occur together. We treat the insomnia, we have partners who treat the apnea, and our clinician coordinates any referral that is needed. Some clinician profiles list any additional work with anxiety, depression or stress.

  • Blue Shield of California

We verify your benefits before the first appointment. Visits are billed as therapy, and your plan decides the share you pay. Self-pay is available if your plan is not listed.

How a first appointment works from LA

  1. Talk through the pattern. The first visit is about fifty minutes on your nights, schedule, history and what you have tried.
  2. Build the plan. Keep a brief sleep record each morning. Your clinician uses it to set times for going to bed and getting up.
  3. Adjust it weekly. Most treatment takes six to eight weekly appointments. Improvement can begin within the first few weeks. See how treatment works.

You must be physically in California during each visit. Continue with our pages for San Francisco, San Diego or all of California. There is no Los Angeles office; the nearest practice address is 650 California Street, San Francisco, CA 94108, and nearly all Los Angeles patients are seen by video.

What Los Angeles patients ask first

Does CBT-I work as well over video for Los Angeles patients?
Yes. CBT-I can be delivered by video because the work happens through discussion, sleep tracking and weekly schedule changes. Plan on about fifty minutes in a private place with reliable internet.
Can I take a session from anywhere in Los Angeles County?
Yes. A home, private office or another quiet place in Long Beach, the Valley or anywhere else in the county works. The licence follows where you are sitting during the visit, so you must be physically in California even if your mailing address is here.
Should I get a Los Angeles sleep study first if I snore?
A sleep study records breathing and movement overnight to look for problems such as apnea. Sleep apnea and insomnia often occur together. We treat the insomnia, we have partners who treat the apnea, and our clinician coordinates any referral that is needed.
