How online insomnia treatment works

The first video appointment lasts about fifty minutes. Your clinician asks about your sleep, how long the problem has lasted and what you have tried. Chronic insomnia means trouble falling asleep, staying asleep or returning to sleep at least three nights a week for three months or longer.

When CBT-I is appropriate, you spend about two minutes each morning recording your sleep. Your clinician reviews the record and sets times for bed and waking. The plan is adjusted over six to eight weekly visits. Some patients improve within the first few weeks. Learn more about treatment on the how it works page.

Sleep apnea and insomnia often occur together. We treat the insomnia, we have partners who treat the apnea, and our clinician coordinates any referral that is needed.

Insurance across California

Statewide we bill Aetna, Blue Shield of California, Cigna / Evernorth, Medicare and UnitedHealthcare / Optum. We verify benefits before the first session. We bill each visit as therapy through your mental health benefit. Self-pay and out-of-network options are available. Ask about cost when you book.

Statewide questions

Which parts of California can you treat?
All of it. Our clinicians are licensed to treat patients throughout California. You can join by video from any county, but you must be physically in California during the appointment.
How is an online sleep specialist different from a sleep lab?
A sleep lab measures breathing, oxygen and movement overnight. This can help diagnose sleep apnea and other physical sleep problems. An insomnia clinician uses your history and sleep diary to treat the pattern that keeps you awake. Sleep apnea and insomnia often occur together. We treat the insomnia, we have partners who treat the apnea, and our clinician coordinates any referral that is needed.
Do I choose my clinician, or are they assigned?
You can do either. Each clinician who is accepting patients has a profile with credentials and areas of focus. You can book with the person you prefer, or ask us to match you with an available California-licensed clinician.
Which insurance can I use for online insomnia care in California?
We currently bill Aetna, Blue Shield of California, Cigna / Evernorth, Medicare and UnitedHealthcare / Optum. We verify benefits before your first session, and self-pay is available when a plan is not listed.
