We use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) to treat chronic insomnia. Treatment usually involves six to eight weekly visits and does not rely on sleep medication. Video is the usual option. Some in-person appointments are available.

5 California-licensed clinicians are currently accepting new patients. Each is trained in CBT-I. See credentials, areas of focus and current availability on our clinicians page.
Chronic insomnia means trouble falling asleep, staying asleep or returning to sleep at least three nights a week for three months or longer. Late work hours, early meetings and long commutes can make a regular sleep schedule harder to maintain. CBT-I can be adjusted to the schedule you actually have.
Sleep apnea and insomnia often occur together. We treat the insomnia, we have partners who treat the apnea, and our clinician coordinates any referral that is needed. Clinician profiles show whether they also work with anxiety, depression or stress.
We verify benefits before the first session. These visits are billed as therapy, so your plan decides your usual share. Self-pay is available if your plan is not listed.
Your clinician spends about fifty minutes on how your nights go now, how long the problem has lasted, what you have tried and whether anything besides insomnia is involved. When CBT-I is appropriate, you record your sleep each morning for two minutes. Your clinician reviews those notes and sets your bedtime and wake time. The plan is updated during six to eight weekly visits. Some people improve within the first few weeks. Treatment details are on our how it works page.
You must be physically in California during each session, but your home can be anywhere in the state. See our pages for Los Angeles, San Diego and all of California. In-person appointments may be available at 650 California Street, San Francisco, CA 94108. Call (628) 433-2505 and ask about availability when scheduling.
